Curt Bergen started playing the piano at age seven, and was accompanying the choir and playing in church in Vanderhoof by age twelve. He has been active as an organist, choral director and accompanist in Victoria for 35 years.
He studied organ at the University of Victoria, and after completing a Bachelor of Music there, moved to Louisville Kentucky where he obtained a Masters in Church Music at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Curt has served as the director of music at Emmanuel Baptist Church, and later at Saint Matthias Anglican Church before coming to Saint Mary’s in 1999. He has accompanied numerous community choirs in the city. He has also taught many children and adults how to the play the piano and organ.
Curt and his wife Elizabeth have two daughters, Rachel and Naomi, and a Pomeranian named Java.
