Pamela Whiston began piano lessons with her mother at the age of five. In 1987 she was awarded first place at the Alberta Provincial Music Festival, and a few years later she received a B.Mus. degree with Distinction from the University of Alberta. In the years to follow she devoted herself to family life and taught piano lessons in rural Alberta. Pamela has also accompanied many choirs and musicians over the years.
Her great love is chamber music, and together with her string-playing friends in Edmonton they have studied and performed some of the great masterpieces for piano quintet, including those by Brahms, Dvorak, and Schumann.
This concert consists of solo repertoire which Pamela learned in the few years that she lived here in Victoria, encouraged by her friend Curt Bergen and the lovely folk of the parish here at St. Mary’s. She is thankful to be back for a visit, and to share the gift of music in this wonderful place.
Admission is by donation, suggested $15-25. Proceeds support St Mary's ongoing concert series, bringing both new and experienced performers into a wonderful acoustic space and enriching our shared life as a community.
