Not all the hot air at St Mary’s comes from the pulpit. In fact, most of it comes from the 1409 pipes of our Cassavant Frères-built organ! Pipe organs are an instrument with ancient origins, an incredibly diverse range of sound and expression, and a central role in the history of music composition over the millennia.
Fortunately St Mary’s own skilled music director, Curt Bergen, is here to help us to appreciate the pipe organ in all its splendour. Our Autumn Organ Recital Series began last Sunday afternoon (September 24) and will continue on the last Sunday of October and November.
The first installment, ‘The Making of a Master’ demonstrated just what a treasure we have, in both Curt and this instrument. Spread the word, and if you enjoy the music of the pipe organ, mark your calendar for 2:30pm on October 29 and November 26—and keep checking the recital series page for updates on upcoming themes and programmes.
